Really, I don't. Even as a child I thought to myself that if you couldn't get something done because it needed doing then why would it being a new year (which is really just another day) make any difference? I remember making stupid kid resolutions (I'll wear a dress two days a week) because a teacher insisted (and the dress thing lasted through about two recess time games of "pickle" - you simply can't slide for the base in a dress). If you want to change something and need a memorable marker the begining of a month is just as good, or the beginning of a week. Grow some self control already.
Normally I wouldn't make a post like this, but I happen to have a few things already in the works for the year and they happen to have specific start and end dates; one of those starts being at then end of Jan and ending about 2-ish years later via night classes. My projects for this year include ONLY the following: 1. stain my current ceramics works and clean out my locker (oh god, I can't believe I'm cleaning out my locker!!!! I've been in that studio for the better part of 13 years and never been away for more than a single semester at a time.), 2. prep for the Shanley wedding (2 corsets, one fabric shopping trip, one bridesmaid's dress, one bridal breakfast to plan/execute/pay for, one keeping-the-bride-sane-the-day-before marathon), and my first class towards my BA in Sociology, which starts Jan 22nd - then 2 more years at 2 classes/quarter and $15,000 in student loans. Eeek.
